St Johns Ambulance Visit

Nature trail Dioramas

It’s not surprising that we love to make dioramas. The challenge was for room 17 students was to create a diorama based on our school nature trail where they could dream up a moment in time, an imaginary miniature world, filled with fauna and flora, all contained in a little box. Take a look at what they made.

Leaves

We did a simple experiment to find out ...

The bubbles that form on the leaf and sides of the glass are oxygen. Leaves take in carbon dioxide and through the
process of photosynthesis, they create food for the plant.
Oxygen is a by-product of this and goes into the air.

Leaves absorb water easily.
Most plants absorb water through their leaves.
Water is absorbed through the roots of a plant from
the soil and transported to their leaves.

Kōwhai Seedlings

Today we looked at our Kowhai seeds carefully.
We thought about size and texture before
making drawings of our observations.

Carefully planting seeds in biodegradable fibre pots

We had to sand the hard shell of the seed
so that the seed would grow in the soil.
