Our visit to Hukanui Marae 2018

Hamilton East School spent a morning at
Hukanui Marae Gordonton.
What a fabulous day we had.
We were welcomed with a traditional Powhiri
led by children from Pipiwharauroa Kohanga Reo.

We were led on by Kaumatua Boson
Tangata Whenua welcomed our school in the traditional manner.
We got to see inside the Wharenui (meeting house)
and hear stories about Hukanui Marae.

Our Kapa Haka performed with mana (prestige) as a parting farewell.

Looking for Bugs

We went Bug Hunting.
Our mission was to search for different kinds of bugs.

Looking for those curious bugs
that like to hop, fly, wiggle and slide.

If your'e not sure where to find
insects or bugs try lifting rocks,
looking on tree trunks and
exploring around gardens
and flower beds.

Try scratching the earth
beneath your feet. There is
lots to find like ...

cicada shells

ants and beetles

and sometimes busy
little spiders at work.
