Inspired by the Rock cycle we made Borax Crystals
We used:
1 L of boiling water
9 tablespoons of borax
4 drops of food colouring
Pipe cleaners
Whaea Robyn added 9 tablespoons of borax to the boiling water. Stir until borax starts to dissolve.
As the solution cooled some students had a turn at stirring ...
and adding the food colouring to the solution.
Finally stir some more.
We made shapes with the pipe cleaners
and tied them onto skewers. We placed them
into different coloured borax baths and allow
to rest over the weekend.
After the weekend we found that the pipe
cleaners had formed thick layers of crystals.
